Casa Grande RC Flyers Field has two runways, one paved, one fabric, each 250′ x 40′.

There are also covered and uncovered work tables, aircraft start benchs, a dedicated heliport, and of course, windsocks at each end of the runways.

As a special bonus there is a saguaro cactus off the north end of the runway. After all, this is Arizona!

Looking for a good read on days when you cannot fly? Take a look at “Airplanes on My Mind” by Sherwood Heggen. The book is a fun collection of stories, some fiction, some non-fiction. It is available through Amazon for less than $10.

Sherwood is a founding member (1979) of the Anoka County Radio Control club, ACRC, Anoka County, MN. Sherwood has been building and flying RC over 60 years. His passion is vintage and classic models, mostly powered by nitro engines. At last count he had more than 100 nitro engines, most in operating condition! He does have a couple of electric powered models but seldom flies them.

Sherwood regularly attends swap meets, looking for models in desparate need of love. He can completely rebuild the model and return it to full flying condition. Sherwood is a master builder. He prefers to scratch build but will complete kits if he finds just the right one. His models are genuine works of art.

CGRCF FIELD WEATHER

Until the new weather station is operational we can still get live conditions near the field. Upload the “Weather Underground” app on your phone. Then search for weather station “KAZCASAG216” which is about 1/2 mile due west of the field. Make it a “FAVORITE”. Now you can check field conditions before making the trip.

RC FLIGHT TRAINING UPDATE

Thanks to Bob Flynn and Dennis Dunne who graciously donated transmitters to the program. We now have greatly increased capacity to train new RC flyers.

OPPORTUNITIES

Monthly meeting. A meeting of members was held on Saturday, May 30 2026 at the Sky High Coffee shop at the Casa Grande Municipal Airport. Great fellowship and food. What more could you ask for? The next scheduled meeting is set for Tuesday, June 30 2026. Time is 12:00 noon, again at the Sky High Coffee shop. Feel free to bring along a model you are working on for a “Show and Tell”. The meeting is open to all comers interested in RC flying.

Summer activity. Brian has suggested that our members who fly at other clubs during the summer might send photos and comments about activites at those clubs. Always fun to see new fields and flyers. If you have such photos and comments please forward to “jhallorion31@gmail.com“.

Thursdays mornings – at the CGRCF field: streamer combat, spot landing and bomb drop competitions! As well as the usual flying. Come join the fun!

Southwest Soaring Society. This Maricopa based club has invited CGRCF members with gliders to join the action with their club. See www.swsoaring.net for more information.

Boy Scout Troop experience. A local troop will be offered dual instruction and demostrations of the aircraft we fly. Date to be arranged, likely on a weekend.

Do you really think this bench will fly?
